How many children should you have?

 Kids?


Have you ever thought to yourself how many kids you want? How many; 3,2,1,5? Nowadays, people don’t even want to have kids. There are so many factors as to why this happens. A major issue is women not wanting to give up their dreams. Getting pregnant can put a woman's life on hold, whether that’s education or your career. 


Most people today would think having fewer kids is a good thing. A prime example of this is the song Zero Population, from the movie Saturday’s Warrior. “Every day the world is getting smaller by far, Bursting at the seams.  What can we do? Zero population is the answer, my friend. Without it, the rest of us are doomed”. This movie was based in the 70s, at the time people were having fewer kids. Saying the world was getting smaller, there is no room left so their solution is to stop having kids. A summary of this movie was a family of 8 in heaven promised to always be there for each other. The youngest child feared that once it was her turn to go down to earth, her family wouldn’t want her. The main character (Jimmy) had friends who criticized him and his family for having so many kids. Due to the friend's influence, Jimmy was very upset when learning his parents were having another kid. His sister sings him the song “Line Upon Line”, If we are patient we shall see hope the pieces fit together in harmony. We'll know who we are in this big universe”. This song tells the story of not throwing it all away because you don’t understand. If you ever meet someone with the view of not having children, encourage them to watch Saturday’s Warrior. 


People often are influenced by others easily. I think that’s why more and more people are having fewer kids these days. Sometimes women are concerned about their bodies changing. Not having the perfect body they used to. Or not knowing how to be a mother. Being a mother for the first time is something everyone has to learn, there is no booklet that tells you how to do it. Don’t be discouraged, no one is perfect, there will be many ups and downs.

Marriage

  Marriage. Do people truly know what it means to be married? These days, I don’t think people truly know. I loved reading a talk by James E. Faust, one of the things he said was, “Of all that can bless marriages, there is one special enriching ingredient, which above all else will help join a man and a woman together in a very real, sacred, spiritual sense. It is the presence of the divine in marriage. Shakespeare, speaking in Henry the Fifth, said, “God, the best maker of all marriages, combine your hearts in one.” ( Henry V, 5:2.) God is also the best keeper of marriages”. I would encourage you all to read it, it explains a lot about marriage. It’s called “The Enriching of Marriage” from October 1977. Isn't it crazy thinking those words are still relevant today? After all this time, it’s still true. I think people make the mistake of not knowing each other enough. Family systems

  Do you have a good family life? I know a lot of people have mixed feelings about this question. I recently learned about family systems. I really like this quote, “ It is like a game of billiards. When you shoot the cue ball into a cluster of other balls it scatters them in various direction; some more than others. In other words, the action of one member affects everyone else in that family system”. It’s important to see the family as a team, you have to work together. In order to be successful, you have to play your part. Each family member has their own responsibilities to work together. For example, in a typical family; the dad provides for the family while working, the mom takes care of the house and children. It’s also very important for the home to be emotionally stable. The environment needs to be healthy and happy. In order to do so, the parents need to set an example. Kids feed off of others, they will act as they see.
