Family traditions

 Readers' Advisory: Family Traditions

Family traditions, everyone has them and loves them. Think of your favorite tradition with your family, what emotions are attached to them. My family traditions give me a sense of hope, joy, and love. I’m surrounded by the people I love, so it’s easy to love them. My favorite is having dinner at my grandparent’s ward building on Christmas Eve. We all meet up at the building to eat, sing, and spend quality time. We always have the best homemade food that will always give you a food baby. We recreate the nativity scene and sing hymns. For the last couple of years, I have played the hymns on the piano for my family, so It warms my heart even more. Another tradition I love is singing Families Can Be Together Forever, I feel swell within. Having this tradition makes me closer with my Heavenly Father and reminds me I will be able to live with my family forever. Having this knowledge makes me burst with joy, also being closer with my family. What warms my heart is knowing I can pass on these traditions to my kids and make them feel the same way. An important thing I had throughout my childhood was having family dinners. It brought a sense of unity and love. I was reading a blog when something stuck out to me,“Many families have traditions that endure for generations. These special activities or events often generate fond memories that everyone cherishes and attempts to carry on. Some traditions relate to the family's heritage, like going to a cultural festival or cooking a meal from the "old country" on a certain day each year. Others may have to do with special events, such as a pearl necklace that is passed down at each wedding.  Still others are simply fun activities that family members enjoy repeating.” This little excerpt shows us why we should have family traditions. A tradition I had with my mom was baking/cooking with her for holidays. As a child, it made me feel like I was very important. Out of all my siblings, I was the only one that got to help mom. I’m sure almost everyone probably has a tradition around the holidays where you all get together and eat food. How does it make you feel? Do you get that feeling of love? Traditions are very important to have, it keeps the bond together.
